Studies show that the use of emojis increase engagement. Besides that, emojis liven up your content, show your brand personality, are fun to use. But how?⠀⁣
⠀⁣
Here are some ideas:⠀⁣
✨Use emojis as bullet points.⠀⁣
✨Use emojis to draw attention to specific statements in your caption that you want to stand out. For example, you don’t want your followers to miss your call-to-action so you can draw their eye with an emoji (or 2 or 3).⠀⁣
✨Use emojis to draw attention to certain words so that someone who is just skimming your caption will get the basic idea, whether you are writing about 🦄 unicorns and 🌈 rainbows, 🍕 food, or a more serious topic.⠀⁣
✨Replace words with symbols.⠀⁣
✨Use emojis to show your brand’s personality. Which emojis really represent your brand? Consider your brand colors, theme, and products or services that are offered.⠀⁣
✨Use emojis to convey emotion 😋 when commenting on another account’s post.⠀⁣
⠀⁣
Tips for using emojis:⠀⁣
✨You generally shouldn’t use emojis excessively but if you have a creative reason for doing so then go for it!⠀⁣
✨Stick with emojis that are relevant to your content⁣
✨Think about all intended meanings of the emoji you are choosing. You don’t want to confuse readers or send the wrong message.⠀⁣
✨Use a variety of skin tones to represent people or stick to neutral yellow.⠀⁣
⠀⁣
❔What's your favorite emoji? (See the top of this caption for mine.)
In a normal world, the California State Fair would In a normal world, the California State Fair would be opening tomorrow. For the past several years, my family has passed up the State Fair in favor of the smaller Sacramento County Fair, which was also canceled this year. Anybody else suddenly have the urge to go out and do things they would normally pass up? Or is it just me? ⠀

The 4th feels a little different this year, not ju The 4th feels a little different this year, not just because of COVID, but also because much of what we thought to be the nation’s “history” is now being challenged and re-examined. The cruel treatment of Blacks has been brought to the forefront of our minds and it suddenly feels silly to celebrate Independence Day knowing that such a large population of Americans were still fighting for their freedom, long after the Declaration of Independence was adopted. I urge you to read the speech “What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?” which was delivered by Frederick Douglass on July 5, 1852. Although parts of Frederick’s speech were dismal, he alludes to hope and the possibility of change. I think possibility has always been the beautiful thing about America.

I am a firm believer that the sentiment behind a holiday can morph and change over time, along with our personal beliefs. To me, the fourth has always been about celebrating Summer, spending time with family + friends, outdoor BBQs, fireworks, and Jello flag cake. Independence Day, to me, is a celebration of America – a place full of possibility. It is a time to celebrate progress – past, present, and future. It is a reminder to keep working towards independence and equality for all. ❤️🇺🇸🎆
